Our History
From one teacher in a modest village classroom to a lasting centre of learning for generations of children.
Founded in 1927 by Subraya Bhat Pallathadka, who initially served as its sole teacher, AUP School Pallathadka began in a humble location known locally as Aache Kare (“That Corner”), south of Pallathadka town along the Badiadka-Pallathadka Highway. Soon afterward, the school moved north of Pallathadka, near the Pallathadka-Perla Highway. At this second location, it offered Grades 1 through 5, with Subraya Bhat, Subba Master, and Mahalinga Master as its principal teachers. In September 1961, the school moved to its present campus, which then consisted of a single small building.
Over the following decade, the school grew significantly. By 1970, enrolment had reached 405 students, and seven grades were offered in both Kannada and Malayalam. On May 4, 1970, Subraya Bhat retired after 40 years as headmaster. He passed away on May 27, 1971. Shankaranarayana Bhat Pallathadka later served as headmaster from 1976 to 2004, while his elder brother, Venkatramana Bhat Pallathadka, managed the institution until his passing in 2007. The Pallathadka family continues to manage the school, carrying forward its long tradition of community-centred education.

The Founder
Subraya Bhat Pallathadka
Fondly called by students “Muddu Mashtru” (Dear Teacher)
Subraya Bhat Pallathadka founded AUP School Pallathadka in 1927 and began its journey as its sole teacher. He went on to serve as headmaster for 40 years, guiding the school until his retirement on May 4, 1970. Fondly called “Muddu Mashtru” (Dear Teacher) by generations of students, his commitment to education established the foundation on which the school continues to grow.

Venkatramana Bhat Pallathadka
1931–2007Venkatramana Bhat Pallathadka, the eldest son of Subraya Bhat, began his career at Keerikkad LP School. He later taught in Ujire and Padubidre and at Kumble High School. Over a long career in education, he served as headmaster of Edaneer High School, run by Edaneer Mutt, and retired as headmaster of a school in Harekala near Mangalore. Deeply committed to his family's educational legacy, he managed AUP School Pallathadka for more than three decades.
Dr. Keshava Bhat Pallathadka
1940–2010Dr. Keshava Bhat Pallathadka, the second son of Subraya Bhat, began his education at AUP School Pallathadka. As a young man, he also worked as a labourer during construction of the school's 1961 building. He later completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. studies in Madras and became an eminent botanist and internationally respected scientist. From 1969, he served as a university professor in Venezuela. Throughout his life, he offered the school guidance and financial support whenever needed, helping sustain its service to the region.
Shankaranarayana Bhat Pallathadka
1948–2004Shankaranarayana Bhat Pallathadka, the third son of Subraya Bhat, attended AUP School Pallathadka as a child before earning B.Sc., B.Ed., and M.A. degrees. He began his teaching career at Navajeevana High School, Peradala, in Badiadka before returning home to serve as headmaster of AUP School Pallathadka from 1976 to 2004. He taught Science, Mathematics, and English at middle and high school levels. A gifted mathematician known for making complex ideas easy to understand, he also served as a district resource person, training teachers in effective subject instruction.
